Richard Pereira Remembered After Passing Near Maiquetía Following Repatriation From the United States to Venezuela
Richard Pereira died on the same day the family arrived in Venezuela after a repatriation flight from the United States.
Richard, Johana Pineda, and their 7-year-old child, Richard Richi Pereira Pineda, had lived in the United States after leaving Venezuela in search of a safer and more stable future.
The family believed a routine immigration check-in would give them two months to prepare for departure, but they were placed on a return flight only days later.
While the family stayed in temporary accommodations near Maiquetía for repatriated families, two powerful earthquakes struck the region.
Johana and Richi survived, and relatives said they now need support for final arrangements, transportation, care needs, housing, food, school supplies, counseling, and daily essentials.
Luisa Quintero Pineda, Johana’s niece, organized the fundraiser from the United States after living with the family in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.
As of Friday, June 26, 2026, the campaign had raised $1,253 of a $20,000 USD goal through 28 donations.
Details regarding memorial services will be announced later by the family.
